BYD "Please check TPMS" / abnormal tyre pressure warning

What the tyre-pressure warning light and "Please check TPMS" message mean on BYD models, and what is safe to check yourself.

What this means

If the tyre-pressure warning light comes on with the ignition, it should switch off within a few seconds once the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) confirms all four tires are within range. If it stays on or comes back on, and the instrument cluster shows "Please check TPMS" with the pressure reading as "---" or "No Signal", the system itself has a fault rather than a simple low-pressure tire. You can keep driving carefully at moderate speed to a safe place to check the tires, but do not ignore it for long: an underinflated or damaged tire affects handling and braking distance.

What causes it

Most often this is one or more tires genuinely below the recommended pressure (check the placard on the driver's door jamb), a slow puncture, a recent tire change or rotation that has not yet re-synced with the system, or cold weather causing a temporary pressure drop. A "---" or "No Signal" reading instead of a number points to a TPMS sensor or system fault rather than the tire itself.

What to do

Check and correct all four tire pressures (including the spare, if fitted) against the door-jamb placard using a reliable gauge. If pressures are correct but the warning or "No Signal" persists, or the light stays on after driving, have a BYD authorised dealer or service provider check the TPMS sensors.

Important

Check and correct all four tire pressures (including the spare, if fitted) against the door-jamb placard using a reliable gauge. If pressures are correct but the warning or "No Signal" persists, or the light stays on after driving, have a BYD authorised dealer or service provider check the TPMS sensors.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep driving with the tyre-pressure warning on?

You can drive carefully at a moderate speed to check and correct the tire pressures, but treat the warning as something to resolve the same day, not to ignore.

What does "No Signal" mean instead of a pressure number?

It means the system cannot read one or more TPMS sensors, which points to a sensor or system fault rather than an actual pressure problem.

Why did the warning appear after I changed or rotated my tires?

TPMS sensors are tied to specific wheel positions on some systems; a recent tire or wheel change can trigger a temporary mismatch until the system resyncs or is reset by a technician.

Does cold weather affect this warning?

Yes. Tire pressure drops slightly as temperature falls, which can be enough to trigger the warning even without a leak.

Where do I find my BYD's correct tire pressure?

Check the placard on the driver's door jamb, or your owner's manual -- correct pressure varies by tire size and load.

Does this affect other BYD models too?

Yes, TPMS and the "Please check TPMS" message are shared across BYD's current EV and DM-i range; model-specific TPMS guides (for example on BYD ATTO 2 DM-i) cover the same system.
